Weaving Station: One

We just received a very generous gift of a Nilus LeClerc Loom, dubbed Weaving Station: One.

Jen is working on getting it set up and learning how to use it – if anyone out there knows about setting up looms and weaving and would like to have access to ours, please contact us.

Thing-A-Day Month: Day 1

Thing-A-Day is a month long creative sprint where you have to make something new every day.  Some of us here at Pumping Station: One are going to be participating.  We’ll be logging our efforts here — enjoy!

I started working on a hollow book, and Tim Saylor made some incredibly apropos snow shoes.

Equipment Labeling

We have a new equipment labeling and tracking system!

Here’s how it works – every major piece of equipment has a wiki page and a label.

The label has 5 pieces of critical info:

  1. Name of the Tool
  2. QR code and URL (of the wiki page)
  3. Owner – (PS:One or individual)
  4. Certification Required (RTFM) or No Certification Required
  5. Do Not Hack (DNH) or Hacking is OK

The Wiki page is a place where you can learn more about the tool, whether it is functioning, safety documentation, person to contact, certification information, etc.

Feel free to go into the equipment pages and add detailed usage information.

Thanks to the generous folks at LVL1 and Labitat for sharing wiki code and labeling schemes with me – I stole a bit from both systems to come up with the PS:One system.  Thanks to Dan Meyer, Shawn Blazak, and Tim Saylor for putting in a few hours of hard work Sunday afternoon to get the system up and running. Thanks also to Nathan Witt and Jim Burke for smoothing out bumps in the wiki template and creating video, respectively.

Pumping Station: One is part of Something New!

IMG_0344Exciting event: tomorrow, Wednesday, November 11th, Pumping Station: One is participating in Chicago’s Something New roving art show. What does this mean? This means that PS:One will be open to the public (even more so than usual!) so that everyone can come see the constantly in-flux work of art that is Pumping Station: One. Projects will be on display, music may or may not be playing, and the whole place will be yours to peruse. Come and support us in our first officially artistic event this Wednesday! (and if the show inspires you, come to our Feel the Noise Hackathon the third Saturday of this month and get your make on).
